The South-West Zonal Coordinator for the National Commission for Mass Literacy and Non-Formal Education (NMEC), Mrs. Lawal Kuburat Funke, has hailed the wondrous feats achieved by the AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative in the area of women literacy, numeracy and economic empowerment.
She made the commendation at her office in Ibadan on Monday when the AfriWomen founder, Mrs. Adebukola Oso, paid her a courtesy visit to introduce AfriWomen vision statements to her and also explain the various programmes and events the organisation has organised in a bid to elevate the level of mass literacy in Oyo State especially among women in the grassroots.
The NMEC zonal boss noted that it was highly commendable for AfriWomen to have successfully located and registered no fewer than 205 women for its ongoing adult literacy class whose first batch commenced learning on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
“I must really commend the AfriWomen for the fantastic job you have done so far. The very fact that you have been able to register about 205 women at this critical period is highly commendable. This is because what you are doing is what we do and we know how difficult it is getting women who will be willing to learn to read and write at their age,” she said.
In view of the AfriWomen achievements so far, the NMEC boss said government officials from the zonal office in Ibadan will pay AfriWomen intermittent visits and also supply writing and reading materials as well as necessary textbooks once the next batch of national academic materials are released.
In her appreciation message, the founder of AfriWomen, Mrs. Oso thanked the NMEC zonal boss for her words of commendation and promised to ensure that the AfriWomen organise and carry out more educative and empowerment programmes in a bid to better the lots of women in the grassroots.
