The AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative in her aim to alleviate poverty through the social and economic development of women and the girl child inaugurated the adult literacy centre at Foworogun in OnaAra LGA of Ibadan.
The CEO (Adebukola Oso), alongside staff and a student of The AfriWomen literacy center, Molete were at the Open Day held at Christ Armies Church, Foworogun, Ibadan.
The Open Day was organised to establish a relationship with the women of the Foworogun community, intimating them on the operations of the AfriWomen.
Adebukola Oso speaking on her experiences as a girl child and woman, she discussed with the attendees the rationale for her women empowerment programmes. Encouraging women to take bold steps so that they can be more in life, she invited Mrs Tope Ojo a beneficiary of the AfriWomen Centre Molete to share her experiences too.
Ojo started by saying education is the key, she came from a family where her dad never believed in girl-child education, the training of female child, so she didn’t go to school. Her dad gave her some money to go into business instead.
She started her business and when she got married, her husband said he wasn’t going to train their female child because he believed they will take the education to their husband’s house, and it won’t be of any value to his family.
Mrs Ojo stated, “I vowed to train my children all by myself. It wasn’t easy but to God be the glory I was able to train my daughter who is now a graduate and is the one taking care of the family.”
Ojo also said that she also values education because she lost a government contract due to the fact that she had no education certificate to tender. This is one of the many benefits of education she reiterated.
The CEO urged the women to turn up and put in their best because a certificate will be issued to them by Oyo state and the organization. Over 35 women registered for the classes set to begin early April.
The AfriWomen’s goal is to create an environment where each woman is encouraged to maximise her full potential, to positively improve her life, that of her family and community said Adebukola Oso.
