AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative, under the visionary leadership of its Founder and CEO, Chief Mrs. Adebukola Oso, launches its annual advocacy and campaign against domestic violence as part of the global commemoration of the International Day Against Domestic Violence. This year’s theme, “Heal, Hold & Center”, emphasizes the importance of healing from violence, holding space for survivors, and centering those most marginalized in society.
From November 25 to December 10, 2024, AfriWomen will be at the forefront of campaigns addressing domestic violence against women and girls. During these 16 days of activism, the organization will engage in groundbreaking initiatives, including:
- Visits to Survivors: AfriWomen’s team will visit survivors of domestic violence, offering them much-needed miscellaneous aid and learning firsthand from their journeys. These visits will not only provide material support but also shape future interventions to better serve victims.
- Engagement with Thought Leaders: AfriWomen will meet with key thought leaders to exchange insights on domestic violence and foster innovative solutions for prevention and rehabilitation.
- Ongoing Support and Empowerment: AfriWomen has supported 56 women and their families in 2024 alone, providing mediation services, shelter, relocation, counseling, medical assistance, psycho-healing, and long-term empowerment through vocational skills acquisition.
“We take pride in the incredible strides we’ve made this year, not just in numbers, but in the quality of survival and healing. Many women are now active participants in our MSME clusters, regaining their self-esteem and achieving financial independence,” said Chief Mrs. Adebukola Oso, Founder and CEO of AfriWomen.
AfriWomen calls on philanthropists, international organizations, governments, and development agencies to join hands in the fight against domestic violence. As economic hardships increase vulnerabilities, especially for women and children in displacement camps and those plunged into poverty by the ongoing recession, we need more support to expand our impact.
“With additional funding and partnerships, we can transform the lives of countless more women and their families, ensuring that no survivor is left behind,” Oso emphasized.
AfriWomen’s past successes in advocacy and social development are documented on its official website and social media platforms. Visit these channels to learn more about our journey, campaigns, and achievements.
