In furtherance of its ongoing mission to foster inclusive agribusiness development, AfriWomen recently met with sheep and goat farmers in Oyo State to explore potential areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing the participation of women and youth in small-scale livestock farming. The engagement provided an opportunity for AfriWomen to understand the current landscape of small ruminant farming within the region and assess how the organisation’s resources and programmes could be aligned to support and scale local efforts.

The interactive session focused on critical themes such as animal care, feeding practices, and effective livestock management. These discussions aimed to strengthen technical capacity and promote knowledge-sharing, especially for women and young people who are often actively involved in household-level food systems but face significant barriers to formal training, access to finance, and market entry.

AfriWomen’s presence at the session marked the beginning of what is expected to be a progressive collaboration — where AfriWomen leverages its expertise and leadership to integrate existing sheep and goat farmers into structured cooperative clusters. By offering a strong, organised cluster model, AfriWomen is positioned to assimilate new livestock-focused groups into its network, providing access to capacity-building initiatives, input support, and financial inclusion pathways.

In recognising the vital role of small ruminant farming in improving household nutrition and generating rural income, AfriWomen is committed to working with willing partners to strengthen meat and milk production at the grassroots level — enhancing both food supply and livelihoods in rural communities.

AfriWomen remains open to meaningful collaborations with value chain actors who share its vision of empowering women and youth through agribusiness. With a clear focus on results-driven, community-based impact, the organisation continues to build clusters that deliver inclusive growth, improved food systems, and sustainable economic opportunities across Nigeria.
