As part of its continued commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable agribusiness, AfriWomen, in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), successfully implemented the “Poultry Power: Youth Agripreneurs Leading Nigeria’s Food Future” accelerator programme from 20 to 22 August 2025 in Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State.

This impactful three-day accelerator targeted 120 young participants aged 18 to 35, equipping them with practical knowledge, business skills, and technical training focused on poultry farming. The programme aimed to promote youth engagement in agribusiness and foster entrepreneurship within the local poultry value chain.

The accelerator featured a variety of structured activities, including:
• Capacity-building training sessions
• Interactive classroom teaching
• Group activities
• Networking engagements with industry professionals and fellow youth agripreneurs

The initiative forms part of AfriWomen’s broader strategy to strengthen food systems, reduce youth unemployment and underemployment, and promote innovation in agribusiness. By focusing on poultry production, the programme provided young people with hands-on experience and the tools needed to build sustainable livelihoods.
AfriWomen remains dedicated to advancing inclusive agribusiness development and will continue to design programmes that empower women and youth across Nigeria through access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities.
