How Adebukola Oso’s AfriWomen is working to create awareness amongst school girls about cyber crime.
The AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative is working with secondary schools across Ibadan Metropolis to raise awareness among secondary school girls including those from the deaf and dumb section of the schools about cybercrime and how to protect themselves from it.
Working with the girls at the seminar, Adebukola Oso examined the various types of cybercrime. She also acknowledged the importance of mobile phones, internet and other sources of communication. Discussing further with the girls, Oso and the girls all agreed that the rate of electronic and Cybercrime has also increased with such facilities.
The attendees were particularly concerned about online and offline bullying threatening them in and out of the school environment.
The seminar which had over 100 attendees ended with participants identifying their rights, how to prevent themselves and how to protect themselves. Over the next couple of months, Oso will be spreading this message to other schools.
Participants received guide notebooks at the event. Many of them opted to join the AfriWomen Girls Club to create more awareness about the issues affecting girl child enrolment and retention at school.
