AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative proudly joined the global community in celebrating International Literacy Day 2024. This year’s theme, “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace,” resonates deeply with our ongoing efforts to empower women through comprehensive literacy programs.
Our adult literacy programs go beyond just teaching reading and writing; they focus on equipping women with financial literacy skills. Through these programs, women learn how to budget, save, and invest, empowering them to take charge of their economic futures. This holistic approach to education plays a critical role in achieving sustainable development and enhancing peace in their communities, aligning with the global call for multilingual understanding as a tool for social cohesion.
Today, AfriWomen celebrated the day by hosting workshops integrating language learning and financial literacy, highlighting the importance of multilingual education in Nigeria’s diverse cultural landscape. We also engaged our beneficiaries in discussions about how literacy can foster mutual understanding and peace, particularly in multilingual contexts like ours.
Our founder, Adebukola Oso, said: “At AfriWomen, we understand that literacy is not just about reading and writing; it is the key to unlocking financial independence and improving livelihoods. By integrating financial literacy into our adult education programs, we are equipping women with the tools they need to transform their economic futures.”
As part of today’s celebrations, we renewed our commitment to ‘leaving no one behind’ by expanding our adult literacy initiatives, ensuring women in underserved communities continue to access free education that transforms lives. This commitment supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education, emphasizing lifelong learning opportunities for all.
AfriWomen remains at the forefront of fostering economic and social development through education, particularly for women-led Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). We look forward to continuing our mission of making literacy and financial education accessible to more women across Nigeria.
