Our History
AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative (AfriWomen) started in 2017 as Widows Lighthouse Empowerment Foundation.
The experience of Adebukola, the founder, of being a widow’s child for nearly 40 years inspired the ‘Widows Lighthouse project’ which targeted the plight of widows and their children. Adebukola’s legal profession, life experience and the Widows Lighthouse work underscore for her the issues and challenges facing African women generally.
In 2020, Adebukola rebranded the Widows Lighthouse as AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative. It is her belief and that of the AfriWomen community, that empowering a broader group of women particularly, through entrepreneurship initiatives.
This will not only promote gender equality but also facilitate the opportunities to offer information, advice, counselling and economic empowerment
Our Objective
✔ To create a community which empowers African women through entrepreneurship training
✔ To provide and facilitate access to enterprise opportunities for African women.
✔ To educate and empower African women to challenge individual and collective socio-economic issues which prevent them from competing favorably in Business
✔ To actively develop initiatives targeted at inspiring in the African women, the natural abilities of women to become effective leaders.
✔ To contribute to global economic development and advancement by ensuring that socio-economic development is accessible to all women particularly the rural and the urban poor
✔ To support innovative financial solutions which do not leave women in debt, but empowers them to create jobs and build vibrant communities.
✔ To innovate vocational training and skills acquisition programs, which enable women to develop and sustain businesses.
